The City seeks a verifiably qualified communication professional, an organization’s development department, or combination of verifiably qualified health communication professionals to assist the City in creating health communication products and lead communication efforts that lead to long-term community health improvement. The contractor will be tasked with leading the MHTF’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) health communication efforts, in partnership with the Office of Planning & Development- Community Development Department, and the Mayor’s Health Task Force’s Healthy Active Living Working Group (HALWG). The Contractor will lead health communication activities for each required program strategy, to inform the community of the project, activities, and progress, as well as support continuous quality program improvement, and scalability of the strategies for future investments. He/She/They will also be responsible for: collecting, developing and disseminating program messages and successes related to the health communication activities that directly support the program strategies, and reporting short-term outcomes pre-determined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The successful applicant, with support from the HALWG, will coordinate with the MHTF and REACH Coordinators, the Resident Advisory Council members, and/or the Community Development Dept. Director for review and authorization to proceed. The Contractor is required to prepare a planning timeline, inclusive of a work plan and schedule for authorized grant opportunities and reporting requirements. The Contractor will be expected to: 1. Integrate Public Health Principles o Apply a broad public health approach that prioritizes health equity and addresses social determinants of health. o Focus efforts specifically on nutrition, breastfeeding, and physical activity, including factors related to the built environment. 2. Support REACH Health Communication Activities o Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health communication strategies under the REACH initiative. o Collaborate with strategy groups and partners to create communication products that are responsive to community and partner needs. o Ensure all communication materials meet quality standards and are accurate, culturally appropriate, and accessible. 3. Monitor and Evaluate Communication Impact o Support the development and application of data collection methods to assess the reach, spread, and community engagement of distributed communication materials. o Use findings to inform improvements in communication approaches and materials. 4. Foster Collaborative Partnerships o Work effectively and collaboratively with both local project partners and representatives from the CDC. o Maintain open communication channels to ensure alignment of goals and coordination of efforts. 5. Support the development and dissemination of two success stories highlighting program impact — one at the end of Year 3 and another at the end of Year 5. Plan and Timeline Development o Establish a timeline for identifying, drafting, reviewing, and finalizing success stories by the end of Years 3 and 5. o Coordinate with internal teams and partners to ensure alignment with program milestones and data availability. Identify Story Candidates o Work with program staff and partners to identify impactful projects, interventions, or community outcomes suitable for success stories. o Select stories that demonstrate measurable progress in addressing health equity, nutrition, breastfeeding, physical activity, or built environment improvements. Gather Data and Testimonials o Collect qualitative and quantitative data to support the story (e.g., participant outcomes, program metrics, community feedback). o Conduct interviews with program participants, community leaders, and partners to capture authentic voices and perspectives.
