The project provides for the staged full depth roadway reconstruction and widening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from 2 lanes in each direction to 3 lanes in each direction and the replacement of 3 mainline bridges. The project includes the removal of three single span multi-beam bridges. The project requires construction of two 1 span composite steel multi-girder bridges, one 1 span composite prestressed spread box beam bridge, and one single cell precast reinforced concrete box pedestrian underpass structure. Additional construction includes 19 retaining walls, 6 stormwater management underground vaults, 15 sound barrier walls, 4 sign structures and 1 arch culvert extension. The contract also provides signing and pavement marking, the Valley Forge Service Plaza entrance ramp, milling and overlaying portions of the Turnpike and side roads, as well as 15 aboveground stormwater basins and other drainage modifications.
