Wilson Special Collections Library (the library) at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) plans to coordinate with a vendor to digitize still image nitrate and acetate film. The chosen vendor shall digitize the materials. After digitization, the nitrate film will be destroyed, and the acetate film returned. Vendors shall respond to the digital capture part of the IFB (Part 2) but can elect whether to respond to the packing & shipping and destruction of originals parts of the project (Parts 1 & 3). The library plans to initially digitize approximately 5,600 negatives and 3,000 negative enclosures from the North Carolina Collection. Additional negatives may be digitized in subsequent work between the library and the vendor. The library will work with the vendor to digitize batches of negatives over time, in an agreed-upon schedule of number of items in a given time period – for example a defined number of negatives + enclosures per month, per quarter, or per year.
