The purpose of the City of Portsmouth Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) Phase 5 project is to continue deployment, upgrade and expansion of the City's existing ATMS. The proposed work will consist of 25 signal improvements to include expansion of fiber optic communications infrastructure and in the installation of ITS devices including closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to further enhance the City's traffic management capabilities within the region. This will include the installation of approximately 6.4 miles of fiber optic cable. The fiber optic cable will be installed in trenched and bored conduit. Additionally, the design will include 7 isolated signal upgrades to convert existing span wire configurations with non-standard equipment to mast arm configurations with City-standard equipment and communications, which will reduce maintenance time and utilize remote capabilities with the central system.
