Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. The Agency hereby provides notice that it intends to enter into a sole source contract per S.C. Code Ann. §11-35-1560 with Vendor for the following supplies, services, information technology, or construction: Tek-Flame fuel for State Fire; The SC Fire Academy (SCFA) provides specialized live firefighter training for the use of fighting fires at airports in which the continual use of flammable liquid is required. Based on a Firefighting Training Fuel Comparative Evaluation by the US Dept. of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration, the Tek-Flame product showed lowest output and the most rapid dissipation of smoke produced by the burning fuels used for training purposes. Data from three (3) lab tests demonstrated that the Tek-Flame product met the highest standards in regard to smoke density testing. We made phone calls to Bureau of Fire Marshal - NJ, and seared the internet websites of Univar Solutions and RelaDyne. Tek-Flame is manufactured by Exxon Chemical company and blended/distributed by Sun Coast Resources. This product is unique in that it is the only product that meets the high caliber of standards as set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) relative to the safety of both firefighter trainees and the safety of the citizens of our state. The SCFA has determined that in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of live firefighter training and to assist in meeting the requirements of the EPA, no other fuel source is suitable or acceptable to meet the need. Sun Coast Resources, Inc. is the sole distributor of the Tek·Flame fuel.
