Contractor will trim, cut down, or remove trees and debris that pose a threat to electrical distribution on The University of Rhode Island Kingston campus, Alton Jones campus, Narragansett Bay campus and the Universities two research farms. The University of Rhode Island has approximately 45,000 feet of overhead lines located on these campuses combined. Trimming and removing trees in close proximity to university electrical lines and equipment that range in voltages from 480V to 35KV. Trees are to be trimmed satisfactory to the university. Trees are to be trimmed such that there is a minimum of 6’ feet of separation between electric lines and the trees and bushes. This separation should be maintained with changes in weather in mind (wind, rain, snow etc.) Secondarily, trees are to be trimmed to maintain the aesthetics of the landscape architecture. Trimming below the power lines will be cleared such that there is a 10’ foot radius of clearance around the pole. Lines should be cleared “ground to sky” when possible. Specific trees that are to be taken down will be marked by a yellow painted “X.” The use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, defoliants, glyphosates, and insecticides are not to be used on university property without written permission from the university. These chemicals are not to be used by any means whatsoever within 500 feet of any university owned bodies of water or well supplies. Mechanical methods of removal will be required in these circumstances. Contactor is also responsible for clearing land for access to these lines such that there is a 12-foot-wide path of access to these lines in situations when they are required. Contractor shall maintain the aesthetics of the campus when possible.
