These Contract Specifications define and describe the major features and performance for the construction of all-welded steel hopper barges, flat barges self-propelled scows, gradall-mounted barges, pump barges, components and accessories suitable for use by the Canal Corporation. It is the intent that the design and construction of the proposed hopper barges, flat barges, self-propelled scows, gradall-mounted barges, pump barges, components and accessories will be an industry standard design with ancillary equipment if specified to be installed on the barges. The bidder is encouraged to submit their standard proven design that meets the criterion set forth in these specifications. It is the intent and spirit of these specifications to provide for the construction of the subject hopper barges and flat barges, self-propelled scows, gradall-mounted barges, pump barges, components and accessories in accordance with all applicable Regulatory Body requirements, complete and fully operational at the time of delivery. This document is not intended to address every detail of design, construction and equipment required to accomplish the work; it is the intent of this specification to outline the major components and material grade of items to be installed. It is understood that additional work not specifically addressed may be required to properly complete the vessel and shall be included in the quote and in the work accomplished. Thus, any equipment, component, or arrangement, the omission of which would be detrimental to the serviceability of the vessel, not in compliance with Regulatory Body requirements, or contradictory to good commercial marine practice, shall be furnished, installed, and made fully operational by the Contractor at the Contractors expense.
