The DRUM Mexico Group, Gypsum Gap, S Gypsum Project consists of safeguarding thirty one (31) mine features including eleven (11) prospect adits, one (1) vent and nineteen (19) adits. The project will occur on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Tres Rios Field Office in Montrose County and San Miguel County. Closure methods will include grates, corrugated steel pipes, backfill, polyurethane foam, bulkhead, and cable nets. Some features will include bat compatible grates or otherwise require bat exclusions prior to backfill or bulkhead. The uranium mine closure Safety, Health and Environmental Action Plan requirements will be applied. Some of the closures are foot access only due to their location along cliff lines or lack of access roads. Numerous closures are hand backfills with limited materials for backfill and will require Polyurethane Foam. Equipment traffic will be limited to existing roads and two tracks and will require approval of BLM and PROJECT MANAGER prior to any equipment access. Equipment access will also be limited by the number trips for certain sites. See attached maps defining project area and site locations. Dangerous rock overhangs and fractured rock are located at many of the mine openings.
