1. Project Summary The California Conservation Corps (CCC) is a state agency that oversees a program for 18–25- year old’s who commit to hands-on work and training to support California’s natural resources, and respond to state declared emergencies such as oil spills, earthquakes, fire, etc. Although program members receive a monthly stipend and medical benefits for their program participation, vision benefits are not provided through the CCC. Due to this, it is an out-of-pocket cost that many may not be prepared for or able to cover. A comprehensive eye examination can help individuals see clearly and may also help detect more serious medical conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, thyroid disease, high blood pressure, and even stroke risk. Due to type of projects, emergency response, and trainings provided to CCC Corpsmembers, vision services can be extremely important to ensure safety and overall health. The contractor shall deliver on-site vision services to six CCC sites on nine scheduled days. The contractor will be responsible for the purchase and movement of all supplies related to the service. CCC shall be responsible for assisting the contractor with scheduling the services throughout the state of California and providing an open space for set-up and members who have agreed to the screenings. As part of the vision exam services provided, prescription eyeglasses shall be included in the total service cost for those who are determined to require corrective lenses. The Program will cover prescription eyeglasses for up to 250 patients, as deemed necessary by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist during the exam. For young adults aged 18-25, not having vision insurance can cause several problems: • High Costs: Without insurance, regular eye examinations can be very expensive. • Skipping Preventive Care: The high cost often makes CMs skip regular check-ups, which can lead to more serious problems like that could have been prevented. • Early detection: Regular eye examinations can detect more serious medical conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, thyroid disease, high blood pressure, and even stroke risk. 2.
