Currently, much of the existing stormwater drainage system in Barton Village discharges directly to Willoughby Brook without any form of treatment. This project will improve water quality and aquatic habitat in Willougby Brook, the Barton River, and Lake Memphremagog by removing approximately 3.1 kg/year of phosphorus and treating numerous other pollutants like fine sediments, bacteria, and oils & grease. The improvements are designed to treat the water quality event (WQE; 1” in 24 hours) from a roughly 6.5-acre drainage area within the most densely developed portion of Barton Village. Runoff will be diverted from an existing storm drain catch basin, pretreated in an underground separator unit, discharged through a buried level spreader, and allowed to infiltrate into a well-vegetated area above the Barton River floodplain. Work to be performed under this project includes: furnishing equipment on a fully operational basis in good mechanical and operating condition. Equipment shall be operated by competent operators experienced in installing stormwater structures and drainage systems. The contractor shall provide all equipment, materials, labor, operating supplies, operators, supervision, and support functions necessary to complete all aspects of the project unless otherwise specified.
