Provide a complete food service to the inmate residents of the Brookings County Detention Center. The current facility, the Brookings County Detention Center, is a local maximum-security facility and is operated by the County Sheriff, assisted by a staff of approximately thirty-one (31) employees. The Brookings County Detention Center has had an average daily population of 57 inmates in 2025. The local population spikes into the 60s and 70s from time to time, which is close to the maximum capacity of 86. The Brookings County Detention Center maintains a fully operational, on-site kitchen capable of meeting all dietary and meal preparation needs of the facility. The kitchen is equipped to provide daily meals in accordance with all applicable health, safety, and nutritional standards, and supports the full population of the detention center.
