Plant diversity and a varietal palette of textural/colorful material will be installed with at least three different species in each container. The ‘Thriller-Filler-Spiller’ design concept shall be incorporated for creating visually appealing containers. Containers shall be planted densely and fill in quickly to cover voided space/bare soil. The vendor is encouraged to experiment with asymmetry in their designs and avoid monoculture installations of similar containers city-wide, in order to create interests and appeal throughout downtown streets, storefronts, facilities, etc. The vendor may suggest rearrangements of containers and groupings of containers deemed necessary for optimal plant growth/health and/or for visual appeal. City staff may move containers at their own discretion. A well-draining but retentive soil medium that is best suited for optimal plant growth/health will be replaced or topped off as needed. Important considerations must be taken and adequate site planning performed to ensure appropriate plant material is selected for the site conditions per container, such as amount of sun, awning coverage, pedestrian accessibility, vehicle visibility, business activity, etc.
