The project must make supportive services available to all families receiving PBV assistance in the project, but the family does not actually have to accept and receive supportive services for the exception to apply to the unit, although the family must be eligible to receive supportive services. It is not necessary that the services be provided at or by the project but must be reasonably available to families receiving PBV assistance at the project and designed to help families in the project achieve self-sufficiency or live in the community as independently as possible. LHA or a project owner, may not require participation in the supportive service as a condition of living in the excepted unit, although such services may be offered. It is LHA’s mission to work in partnership with other housing providers, local government, and nonprofit organizations, providing quality housing and a variety of social service programs that assist residents in achieving their highest level of self-sufficiency. To achieve this mission, the Supportive Servies that may be provided are: • Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program participation • Opportunities for homeownership • Financial literacy and coaching • Budgeting skills • Employment and career support • Education and skill development • One on one support/case management • Engage local agencies to connect residents with service providers in support of housing and self-sufficiency goals NOTE: Clinical Services, except for drug and alcohol treatment, cannot be used to meet the minimum required services for Excepted Units.
