The Town of Westbrook Connecticut is soliciting proposals from qualified firms and/or individuals to perform engineering, planning, permitting and related consulting services as requested by the Town. The Town received grants from the Connecticut Port Authority to facilitate the engineering and planning necessary for the repair of the east/west seawall at Duck Island Roads Harbor located in Long Island Sound and for engineering, planning and permitting for the rehabilitation and raising of the Town Dock and parking area. Duck Island Roads is a popular anchorage which many transient boats use to weather storms. Repairing the seawall will aid in the coastal mitigation plan for storms and sea level rise. Duck Island Roads is a protected way to enter the Patchogue River Federal Channel from the West. The future of Westbrook’s Harbor and many of Westbrook’s beaches depends on the protection of Duck Island Roads by the seawall. The 2 seawalls attached to Duck Island help to protect the Patchogue River Entrance Channel from silting in. The Town Dock has been used by the US Fish & Wildlife Service as a loading point and as a transfer point for channel markers and mooring buoys from land to workboats. Part of the planning process must be the raising of the parking lot without flooding adjacent property owners.
