Part 1 "Deicing Sand" shall consist of particles of sand, crushed or uncrushed, or a combination of both to be used for spreading on icy streets after being mixed with a brine salt. The materials shall be in accordance with the requirements for gradation of blotter sand as shown in the table in Section 403-2.2 of the said Construction Specifications with one exception; the percent by weight passing the No. 100 square mesh sieve size shall be 0-5%. The CITY will require approximately two thousand (2,000) tons, minimum, of deicing sand at a time for stockpiling. One gradation shall be required for each batch of material delivered. Deicing sand shall be paid for at the unit price bid per ton for Deicing Sand approved and accepted by the CITY. Part 2 “Brine Salt”, not Rock Salt, shall be crushed, screened, and treated with an anti-caking agent and come as a 1/8 inch or less fine crystal. Brine Salt must be clean and free of foreign debris. We anticipate needing approximately two thousand five hundred (2,500) tons of Brine Salt; however, this may be more or less depending upon the winter. No other delivery at awarded bid price of brine salt will be required without consent of the awarded, contracted bidder.
