The Library shall specify binding styles and categories of treatment for some, but not all, items. In those instances, in which the Library does specify the style (e.g., method of leaf attachment) or category (e.g., standard monograph, custom periodical) for an item, that decision shall not be changed by the successful contractor without prior consent of the Library. If an item cannot be prepared in the manner specified, the successful contractor shall contact the Library for instructions, or the item shall be returned by the successful contractor with an explanation of the reason for its rejection. D. Defects in materials or manufacture (such as errors in lettering, lettering worn off so as to be illegible, defective sewing, ill-fitting cases, use of improper adhesives, etc.) shall be returned and repaired at no cost to the Library. Normal wear of the covering material shall be excluded. E. To indicate the successful contractor’s responsibility for the workmanship, a code mark should be stamped or glued to the volume in an appropriate place agreed upon by the Library that shall indicate the year and job lot number in which the volumes were processed and the name of the successful contractor. This shall serve as the company’s guarantee of quality workmanship.
