Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. Product Description (for which approval is being sought): The existing octagonally-shaped skylight (+/- 35’-0” in plan footprint) located at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is a custom-fabricated aluminum-framed glass skylight system originally supplied and fabricated by Super Sky Products, Inc. / Super Sky Products Enterprises, LLC (“Super Sky”, located in Mequon, Wisconsin). The unit was installed during the original construction of the Museum in +/- 1998. Super Sky offers a Skylight Repair and Renovation program which first begins with an inspection/evaluation by a Super Sky technician in developing a refurbishment scope of work; options are developed during this inspection/evaluation process: • Repair: o Elimination of leaks. o Replace broken glass. o Onsite water testing. • Recaulk: o Remove existing sealant and re-seal. o Options include: new caps, retainers, gaskets, wet seals and flush glazed horizontal joints. o New five (5) year warranty against leakage. • Reglaze: o New high performance, laminated/insulated safety glazing. o New caps, retainers, gaskets, wet seals and flush glazed horizontal joints. o New five (5) year warranty against leakage. • Replace: o Skylight replacement should be considered when existing skylight structures are unable to be salvaged and may not meet today’s building codes. o New custom extruded aluminum framed system. o New high performance, insulated/laminated safety glazing. o New five (5) year warranty against leakage. Explanation of why the product is the only one that can meet the project requirements: Museum personnel indicate that various “repairs” have been performed over the years by a variety of subcontractors; seemingly these repairs did not solve leaks for more than the length of time that the sealant products lasted. This repair approach was not in accordance with the skylight manufacturer's warranty or recommended procedure(s). No other manufacturer, contractor, or subcontractor can provide a warranty past one year. We also anticipate that proprietary components from the original manufacturer are required, and can be provided by no other source. Explanation of why the source is the only person or entity that can provide the required product: The only way to obtain a longer-term warranted repair is to utilize the original manufacturer and their proprietary components and repair method(s). The original manufacturer (Super Sky) remains in business, offers a Repair and Renovation program, has a Certificate of Responsibility issued by the Mississippi State Board of Contractors (COR# 19772-SC), and ultimately will offer a new five (5) year warranty against leakage. This is the best solution commercially available, short of completely replacing the existing skylight system at significant additional expense.
