The project consists of renovation to the interior of an existing, single story building at Fayetteville State University. The building is currently being used as a medical clinic and counseling center for the university. The existing Spaulding Building at FSU was built in 1950 and received a significant renovation and expansion in 2004. The building is approximately 8,650sf and is a single-story building. Originally built to Type VI-unprotected construction type, the structure has load bearing perimeter walls, steel post interior columns, and steel bar joist roof and floor structure. In a 2002/04 renovation, a wood framed pitched roof was added on top of the existing, low-sloped roof which remains in place. Today, the building is equivalent to Construction Type III-A (sprinklered) The renovation will be limited to the interior of the building and includes reconfiguration of walls, doors, and ceilings along with associated power, lighting, mechanical, IT, and plumbing services. Some new casework will be installed along with new finishes throughout.
