St. John the Baptist Parish Animal Shelter is seeking professional veterinarians to perform Veterinary Services for the Parish’s Animal Shelter. The Animal Shelter provides care, vaccinations, spay/neuter services while temporarily housing animals. The proposer will provide routine veterinary services during normal business hours as needed on an average of three weekly visits at designated hours (approximately 24 hours weekly service). Services will include, but are not limited to the following: • vaccinations; • wellness checks; • eye enucleation; • diagnostic testing • provide veterinary care for injured and/or sick animals; • minor surgeries; • amputations; • minor laceration repair • prescribe medication, as needed, for sick or injured animals; • perform spay/neuter surgeries; • establish a protocol for vaccination, • de-worming, and heartworm prevention; • determine whether severely injured animals need to be euthanized for humane reasons prior to the expiration of the holding period; • examine and provide treatment and make recommendations for large animals; • perform exams on animals seized for cruelty within 24 hours of the initial seizure and present expert testimony in such cases, if needed, at trial.
