This Project’s main objective is to decommission 0.48 miles of road in order to reduce sediment input to streams and improve hydrological connectivity, water quality, soil productivity and aquatic and terrestrial habitat. Decommissioning treatments include a combination of culvert removal, stream channel restoration, roadbed ripping, recontouring, and erosion control including covering disturbed ground with slash and seed. This native surfaced road is currently undriveable with a moderately dense growth of shrubs and conifer saplings, with occasional logs across the road. General notes • Snags that are a risk to safe operations can be felled by Contractor and left on site. • All culverts will be removed from site and disposed of off USFS property. • Rock will be sourced from Mink rock pit located off USFS Road 2800 at T28S R2E S21. Mileage from pit to 2814-498 is approximately 6.5 miles one way. ODFW’s Delegate will provide design guidance for channel reconstruction; on-site deviations from designs will need to be approved by ODFW’s Contract Representative will provide on-site guidance for channel reconstruction. • “Streambed rock” is rock that includes a mix of sizes between small gravel to 12” and should include approximately 10% to 15% fines; this rock is used for general streambed. “Boulders” is rock that includes boulders between 15” to 24”; this rock is used for grade control construction and scattered in channel. • All area disturbed by project work will be covered by slash (trees, shrubs, saplings) generated by clearing & grubbing to achieve 60% to 80% soil coverage. Where 60% to 80% coverage cannot be met with on-site materials, other approved soil covering (wood straw or weed-free straw) provided by contractor will be applied. Surface rock can count for up to 25% of ground cover. • Apply seed to all disturbed ground at a rate of 15 lbs. per acre. Seed will be provided by USFS. Contractor will work with The ODFW’s Contract Representative to receive the seed. • Where ripping is called for, areas shall be ripped to a minimum depth of 20 inches unless there are too many rocks to achieve this. Equipment used for ripping shall be capable of lifting and shattering compacted soil rather than plowing, mixing, or displacing topsoil. • No ditch relief culverts are on this road.
