The Hospitals seeks qualified and regulated suppliers for Biohazardous Regulated Medical Waste Collection and Disposal in accordance with specifications outlined in this eRFQ. The supplier shall, at the direction of the Hospitals, collect, package, transport and dispose of Medical Waste as described herein, and in the Mandatory Response Questions worksheet. The items of Biohazardous Regulated Medical Waste listed below are segregated. The items of waste included in Supplier provided disposal services, include but is not limited to the following: Contaminated Sharps: Needles, syringes, scalpel and razor blades. Used needles need not be recapped before they are placed in prominently labeled, puncture resistant containers designed specifically for this purpose. These containers are placed in the Supplier provided containers by the generator. Dressings and Tissues: All dressings, bandages, and other disposable items soiled by human blood, and/or body fluids are considered potentially infectious and are disposed of accordingly. Disposal may call for single or double bag techniques. Bags are impervious when removed from the generating areas. The bags will be sealed and placed in containers supplied by the selected Supplier. Laboratory and Pathogenic Waste: Contaminated laboratory waste such as culture plates, tubes, swabs and the like are disposed in the same manner as dressings and tissues. Wastes from laboratories may also be packaged in cardboard boxes commonly called “incinerator cartons.” Similar safety precautions are used in discarding animal carcasses and unpreserved tissue from surgical and necropsy specimens.
