This project addresses residential areas of New Hanover County with the highest PFOA and PFOS legacy compounds by constructing water mains and installing public water services to every home in these neighborhoods currently relying on homeowner wells. Those wells that have been tested with PFOA or PFOS exceedances will have complete water service installations from the public water main to the discharge piping of each respective contaminated well on private property. This project will focus on the areas of Arlington, Brentwood, Burton-Newton-Kerr, Garden Place, Hanover Gardens, Orange Street, Rockhill Road, and Wrightsboro Acres and will include an estimated total of more than 7 miles of new water main and the associated public and private-side water service connections.
