Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is responsible for maintaining drainage structures, storm drains, and/or catch basins within the roadway system. Maintenance includes periodically cleaning drainage systems to preserve the ability to trap sediment and, consequently, the ability to prevent flooding. Removing sediment, decaying debris, and highly polluted water from drainage structures has aesthetic and water quality benefits, including reducing foul odors, reducing suspended solids, and reducing the load of oxygen-demanding substances that reach receiving waters. To meet their maintenance responsibilities, MDOT Detroit Transportation Center (TSC) is seeking a contractor to provide storm drain/catch basin cleaning services on Belle Isle Park in Detroit. The rate at which drainage structures fill with debris, the total amount of material that can be removed, and the frequencies of cleaning are highly variable and cannot be readily predicted.
