1) Comprehensive Intake and Assessment of Parental Capacities • Provide a comprehensive intake and assessment of parenting capacities using the 5 Protective factors used in child welfare. • Partner with the referring social worker to understand reasons for the referral, the expected outcomes of the referral and parental understanding of the services; • Work with families to understand their parenting experiences using a race, culture, equity and community lens; • Assess for skills, barriers to protective parenting (mental illness, chemical health, learning styles), current child needs and experiences; • Work with parents to identify areas of growth and opportunities to increase protective capacities related to child safety and wellbeing; • Include an assessment of life skills domains and understanding of child development, parent/child attachment and the impact trauma has on parenting and child development; • Utilize family, kin, foster providers, and other professionals as collaterals to make recommendations that will best meet the families need; • Incorporate the child’s view and needs using parent/guardian/child observation and interviews, developing recommendations with a child’s voice; • Recommend a Parenting Capacity service intervention that aligns with outcomes of the comprehensive intake and assessment; and • Utilize a validated measurement tool to effectively measure pre and post service parental stress, parenting behaviors and/or skill attainment. 2) Parenting Capacity Building (formerly known as Parenting Education) • Provide education on parenting strategies that directly relate to the comprehensive intake; • Deliver services with a practice module and/or curriculum that includes evidence-informed parenting programs; • Provide services using models or curriculum that attends to identity, culture and community; • Develop strategies and opportunities for parents/guardians to build relationships and support networks within their community, which can be done through group activities and events that involve both children and parents/guardians...
