The purpose of this project is to improve the safety of motorists traveling along Carol Park Road. Carol Park Road is located just North of House Springs, MO, just east of Missouri Highway 30. The proposed project limits will begin approximately 200' South of the intersection of Carol Park Road and Kenridge Lane and end at Gravois Road. Existing conditions of Carol Park Road include 11' lanes, little to no shoulders, and steep grades. Several utility poles are within close proximity to the roadway. Upon review of the crash data, it was determined that the majority of crashes occurred when drivers traveled off the roadway and either struck an object/ditch, struck another vehicle or over corrected their vehicle into the opposite lane of traffic. The County has considered several safety improvement options. The County is proposing the following safety improvements to reduce crashes on Carol Park Road: adding 6' paved shoulders to both sides of the roadway in feasible locations, centerline and edge of roadway rumble strips, high friction surface treatment (on the steep grade section) and new enhanced warning signs and guardrail in locations deemed necessary. The high friction surface treatment will be from Terrace Drive to the end of the project being 200' South of the intersection of Carol Park Road and Kenridge Lane. Guardrail added will meet FHWA and MoDOT standards. Final guardrail locations shall be determined by an engineering study. These safety improvements will help alert drivers as well as giving them additional time to react if their vehicle does leave the 11' lane. The total project length is 1.7 miles in length.
