Berkeley County is requesting bids from qualified companies to cover 3 sections of the newly built jail with industrial-strength coatings on the floors. Three areas of the new jail will have untreated concrete floors that we are interested in covering with industrial-strength coatings. These three areas are (1) a medical area encompassing 5,020 sf, (2) an office suite encompassing 1,180 sf, and (3) inmate housing unit areas comprised of cells, dayrooms, halls, and rooms, encompassing 48,719 sf. The medical area will require a coating that is able to be cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected, and which appears suitable for modern medical exam areas found in hospital settings. The office suite will require a durable and attractive coating suited for an office environment. The inmate housing areas will require a coating that effectively seals the concrete surface and is durable enough to withstand high traffic and repeated exposure to water. All areas will need a product that is slipresistant. Bids will need to specify how the concrete surfaces will be prepared, specify each step of the coating application process including non-skid additives, include a 4” cove base in the medical and office areas, and identify exactly what products will be used. Inmate Housing Area: • A seamless flake resinous flooring consisting of a primer, vinyl flake broadcast, grout coat and topcoat for application over concrete. Medical Area: • A system that consists of the application over concrete of a decorative flake broadcast resinous flooring system that incorporates 100% solids pigmented epoxy base coat, waterclear epoxy grout coat and 2-component urethane finish topcoat. The flooring system should have the appropriate color and finish texture with a nominal thickness of approximately 60 mils DFT. Office Suite: • An extremely durable, high-solids, 100% aliphatic urethane topcoat for application over concrete.
