Indigent defense services in the County of Kings are provided through a panel of individual attorneys, each operating under a separate contract with the County. These attorneys collaborate to ensure comprehensive legal representation for individuals who are constitutionally entitled to defense but cannot afford it. The scope of indigent defense services may include emerging responsibilities such as representation in Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (“CARE”) Court proceedings, as mandated by recent legislative developments. As such, panel attorneys must be prepared to address a range of legal needs across both traditional and evolving areas of public defense. The County invites proposals from attorneys or law firms interested in providing indigent defense services under contract with the County in collaboration with other contracted attorneys.
