• Headwall – exact measurements to be determined at site walk through. o Prep headwall by removing existing headwall to workable surface. Prep headwall to receive new headwall. Rods, ties, rebar may be used to support the new headwall structure. Headwall shall maintain existing levels, transitions honor all existing expansion joints. o Sawcut and remove damaged headwall. Perform headwall prep work, brush sub-surface clean to a hard, solid surface, attach new headwall. Spec attached. o Contractor shall consider all methodologies to restore deteriorated headwall that is cost effective and minimally disruptive. Contractor shall make their recommendation in their proposal. o If concrete used, shall be DOT compliant to meet 4000 psi o While curing, if cold temperatures are forecasted, new concrete shall be appropriately protected with a thermal covering • Tactile (if necessary, to be determined at site-walk through) o All areas are to comply with applicable DOTAS 2016 requirements with level transitions, tactile dome spacing, and slopes. New tactile panels, where called for, shall be wet set composite panels. Cut panels shall comply with compliant dome spacing. All new panels shall be installed and sealed per manufacturer’s instructions. o Contractor shall verify the minimum “Setting Bed” depth for ADA Solution’s Wet Set Dome Units (or approved equal) and install cementitious recess as necessary to provide level transitions between concrete platform and tactile panel. Tactile Unit to Tactile Unit dome spacing of 2.40” shall be maintained to the fullest extent possible. When this is not possible, dome spacing shall be 1.60”-2.40” between tactile units/panels. o Remove all existing composite tactile panels. Haul away and dispose off-site appropriately. o Prep headwall and concrete substrate (trough area under removed tactile) to receive new composite tactile panels. Panels should fit as per manufacturer’s instructions and installed in a manner to honor all expansion joints in adjacent concrete panels within the substrate. o Install new composite tactile panels. Honor existing expansion joints. Panels shall be installed in a manner to be compliant with ADA regulations. Panels shall be sealed with appropriate adhesive, caulk, or other material to minimize water intrusion. Extraordinary care shall be maintained to ensure dome spacing remains within ADA compliance, particularly between panels, and slopes of panels do not exceed 1.6 degrees in any direction. Transitions between headwall, tactile, and existing concrete platform shall be uniform, smooth, and to ADA compliance. • Spalling (if necessary, to be determined at site walk through) o Address spalling by brushing or pressure wash clean to a hard, solid surface, apply new concrete patch product o Make improvements to spalled area as per the written instructions of the material manufacturer and Amtrak procedures outlined o Surface must match existing adjacent concrete and be finished to match adjacent surface and blended with existing concrete surfaces, or otherwise directed by Amtrak Project Manager o Patch products approved by Amtrak Division Engineering include MG Krete and Sika • Line striping (to be determined at site walk through) o Pressure wash, clean and remove existing safety line. Install new compliant safety line as per Amtrak standards
