Psychiatric Crisis Stabilization Units (CSU) are Medi-Cal certified and LantermanPetris-Short (LPS) designated units that provide rapid access to mental health and substance use evaluation and assessment, crisis intervention and medication support, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (24/7). They also provide case management services for individuals experiencing a crisis. CSU services, including integrated services for cooccurring substance use disorders, are focused on stabilization and linkage to recoveryoriented, community-based resources. CSUs have been referred to as Psychiatric, Mental Health, or Behavioral Health Urgent Care Centers (UCCs) in Los Angeles County (County or LAC). CSUs may be freestanding, CSU – Urgent Care Center (UCC), or CSUs may be associated with an emergency department (ED), CSU–ED, also known as Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing (EmPATH) Units. For the purpose of this SOW, all these terms may be used interchangeably.
