DESCRIPTION: This specification covers asphaltic mixtures for cold application to be used in road maintenance activities. Type HP (High Performance Cold Mix) - Mixtures shall consist of a combination of aggregates, asphaltic materials, and anti-strip additives. The mix design must be an approved mix listed on the Approved Material List (AML) for High Performance Cold Mix for Patch Matl. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: The material shall: Adhere to both concrete and asphaltic surfaces which are damp or wet. Be unaffected by salt or deicing compounds. Be non-caustic, nontoxic, and nonflammable. Be uniform and not require stirring or agitation between use. Be workable with hand-held tools and shovels at a minimum temperature of - 12°С (10°F) without being heated. Maintain workability with hand-held tools and shovels throughout 10-hour work day when material is placed in dump truck for transport to various work locations. Maintain the above requirements for at least 6 months in uncovered stockpiles that are exposed to the elements. MATERIAL ACСЕРTANCE: Prior to acceptance by the Department, each shipment shall be visually inspected by DOTD. Product must be a uniformed mix and must exhibit workability upon delivery. Materials may be sampled and tested before final acceptance. TESTING: Sampling and testing of materials will be performed by the DOTD Materials and Testing Laboratory.
