The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This sale is a fourth-row logger select thinning of 162 acres of 28-year-old slash pine on Cary State Forest in Duval County, Florida (see attached maps). Timber to be removed includes every fourth row and select trees in the remaining rows in order to reach 70-80 square feet of residual basal area per acre. Trees to be removed from the selection rows include diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees; followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. The target basal area per acre can be adjusted by the Forester-in-Charge as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions. Boundary trees marked with white paint are not to be harvested. Logging decks and skid trails must be approved by the Forester-in-Charge. Sale boundaries are roads, state forest boundaries, wetlands, or obvious timber type changes. The estimated volume to be removed is 4,050 tons of pine pulpwood and 2,075 tons of pine chip and saw.
