The purpose of this project is to refurbish two existing treatment cells of the Railroad Street passive treatment system. The cells will be revamped by adding new limestone and piping to improve the effectiveness of the system in treating the existing acid mine discharges. The project will include removing all existing compost, metal precipitate, and unusable limestone and burying it in excavated pits. A new liner and limestone will be placed into the cells. As the limestone is being placed, new perforated header pipes will be installed at the locations and levels within the beds as shown on the construction plans. All existing valves and water level control structures will be abandoned and replaced with Agridrains for flushing and water level regulation. The project also includes upgrading the existing emergency spillways and improving the access road as necessary for ingress and egress of construction and supply vehicles.
