The City of Muskegon is inviting proposals from qualified vendors to design and install a new Nature Playscape at Kruse Park, located at 3205 W Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441. The existing traditional playground equipment at this location was removed in 2024, and the City, along with the local community, is looking to replace it with a new and innovative play area. This new space should be creatively designed with a focus on interactive, inclusive, kinetic, and nature-based play elements that also comply with ADA standards and offer high play value. All playground components must meet ASTM F1487 standards. Preference will be given to equipment made with natural wood materials to align with the park’s rustic setting. The design should evoke the feeling of being in the forest, encouraging children to explore through climbing, crawling, balancing, and jumping on features such as ropes, logs, and rocks. The goal is to create a nature-inspired play experience rather than a conventional playground. The project requirements include: • One designated play area or structure for children aged 2–5 • One designated play area or structure for children aged 5–12 • All structures and safety zones must stay within the specified boundaries • Impact-absorbing surfaces that meet IPEMA standards and are accessible for wheeled mobility devices • Comprehensive proposal covering the design, engineering, and installation of necessary drainage systems • Design, engineering, and installation of an accessible walkway to the play area • Site clearing and excavation as part of project preparation
