Shawnee County Parks and Recreation (SCP+R) is planning the development and operation of a multi-use recreational trail to expand and improve outdoor experiences as part of the development of Family Park located in southwest Topeka. The proposed Family Park Trail would connect to city sidewalk at SW 21st Street and the existing “small loop” trail within Family Park. The Family Park Trail will serve to connect surrounding neighborhoods and visitors to additional outdoor recreation opportunities including the current Midwest Health Aquatic Center, the Family Park destination playground and pickle-ball courts, as well as planned hard and soft surface trails. The Family Park Trail will be located in the greenspace and natural areas of the 61.9-acre Family Park just south and west of the Midwest Health Aquatic Center. The primary trailhead is approximately 0.1 miles south of 21st Street and 0.1 miles west of SW Urish Road and will utilize the current aquatic center parking lot. SCP+R has the primary trailhead, trail entrance and the small fitness loop completed.
