The Town had initially envisioned building a new Animal Shelter several years ago at a new site along Creek Road in Huntington located just south of Huntington Harbor. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, labor and material costs rose to unprecedented levels making the project which had been in design economically infeasible. In lieu of constructing a new facility, the Town has now redirected its efforts into repair and renovation of the existing Animal Shelter in East Northport. It should be noted that the existing Animal Shelter is constructed adjacent to, and possibly partially atop, landfill and has over the years experienced some settlement resulting in concrete block wall cracking, sidewalk cracking, and excessive parking lot settlement at the south end. The Consultant is requested to provide design drawings and specifications for bidding purposes to address renovation and/or repair items that have been identified by the Town as requiring attention. The scope of work also includes the development of a Construction Cost Estimate for each item of work. Included in the contract specifications should be a final bid proposal form for contractors listing all items of work, estimated quantities of work items and the method of measurement used to quantify each item of work.
