The Science Laboratory House Doctor Services contract is an on-call contract that will be used by the University of Massachusetts Amherst to develop academically-based laboratory design and renovation projects throughout existing buildings on the two UMass Amherst campuses. The consultant will provide programming and planning studies, cost estimates, final design services, construction contract administration (including construction site visits, punchlist management, and final acceptance) in conformance with the University’s design standards and guidelines. The list below outlines the potential types of science/laboratory projects and/or facilities that may be undertaken. Respondents may not have experience in all laboratory types/categories, but the combined experience of all the selected consultants will be evaluated to the categories of potential projects listed below. Firms are encouraged to demonstrate experience with a focus on science lab renovation projects at occupied higher education facilities. The scope of work may include but is not limited to: 1. Investigating the nature, challenges, and severity of the issues to be addressed under the task order. 2. Documenting existing conditions. 3. Programming for space utilization and best fit to accommodate facility constraints, academic and research requirements. 4. Recommending detailed renovation requirements and magnitude of cost for such repairs, including energy costs, sustainability principles, expected remaining useful life of building systems and related life cycle costs. 5. Proposing alternate methods of renovation, fit-out, and modernization for satisfying programmatic needs, including energy efficient alternatives and climate resiliency options that would address Executive Order 594. 6. Developing the preferred solutions to schematic design and/or design development. 7. Preparing construction specifications and documents, cost estimates, and providing construction administration for the solution. 8. Fit-out, construct, repair and/or modernization of (but not limited to) the following types of academic research and teaching laboratory facilities, including: • Dry & Wet Labs • Biology Labs • Chemistry Labs • Natural Sciences Labs • Food Science Labs • Health Science Simulation Labs • Engineering Labs Cleanroom Labs • Veterinary Labs • Animal Care Facilities
