The existing 2-bay, 8,794 square foot (SF) Fox Mill Fire Station #31 was originally constructed in 1979 to accommodate a staff of seven. It has served the growing Reston and Route 28 corridor, and with the expected continued growth due to the Metrorail and future development, the existing 45-year-old station is in need of upgrades. Due to its age, many of its building systems are either beyond repair or nearing the end of their useful life. To address these challenges and to meet current and future operational needs, a new fire station is necessary to provide updated infrastructure, improved operational functionality, provide gender-neutral accommodations and enhanced building efficiency. Hence, this project includes: • A new, approximately 11,100 SF permanent fire station on the existing site at 2610 Reston Parkway, Herndon, Virginia 20171, including two (2) apparatus bays, operational spaces, gender- neutral accommodations for nine (9) staff including a locker room, individual shower rooms, dayroom, kitchen, dining room, exercise room, bunk rooms, offices, and building support spaces. • Associated parking and site improvements for the new permanent Fox Mill Fire Station within the 1.66-acre site. • An approximately 7,800 SF, temporary fire station on the existing county owned Park-n-Ride at 2601 Fox Mill Rd, Herndon, VA 20191 including two (2) apparatus bays, operational spaces, accommodations for staff, offices and building support spaces. The temporary site is not currently served by utilities. The temporary site will be restored to its original condition after the new permanent fire station has been occupied.
