The Pomps Pond Bathhouse, parking and beach area is in dire need of renovation. As illustrated in the 2019-2020 Pomps Pond Rec Park Master Plan, and the IHCD Town Wide Accessibility Audit. The current facility has structural issues, space issues, and ADA non-compliances. The current parking lot also needs repair and reconfiguring for parking, traffic flow, and accessibility. Accessibility to the pond is also a necessity and is a major goal of the Recreation Department which will involve regrading of the beach area and creating an accessible path from the bathhouse to the water. As part of the Pomps Pond Rec Park Master Plan, surveys were conducted, and of those residents surveyed nearly 20% were dissatisfied with the accessibility, parking, and circulation at Pomps Pond. In that same survey over 33% of residents felt moving the beach house to the Northern edge of the beach would help with overall functionality and accessibility to the beach. A new bathhouse will include a main lobby for program check in and rentals, a multi-purpose room for recreational classes, special events, birthday parties, and meetings, updated restrooms with shower facilities, concession area, and increased storage for site operations.
