The City of Pittsburgh Office of Management and Budget, on behalf of the Department of City Planning, is requesting qualifications from businesses to provide organic waste pickup, storage, staging, education, outreach, composting or other processing services. Respondents should demonstrate capability in collecting, hauling, staging or composting organic waste (predominantly food scraps and occasionally yard waste, compostable cups, lids, straws, etc) in order to provide the necessary services described in this RFQ. Services may include but are not limited to the following: The ability to compost food scrap and other compostable materials or demonstrate access to a processor capable of composting regular food scrap and compostable material from residents, businesses and/or City facilities. The ability to securely store compost food scrap and compostable materials for pickup or demonstrate access to or the ability to provide secure vessels capable of storing food scrap and compostable material from residents, businesses and/or City facilities between pickups. A secure vessel is one that is: outdoor weather-safe, prevents odor, and controls access to non-program participants, as well as, wildlife including rodents, cats, dogs and raccoons.
