Based on the information provided by the client, it is understood that the proposed project will consist of the construction of a new medical examiner office building, and a free standing jail addition. The medical examiner office building is generally planned to the north/northeast of the existing jail, and will consist of an approximately 75 by 88 foot, single-story building. The jail addition is generally planned to the east of the existing jail and will consist of an approximately 75 by 80 foot, two-story building. No basements or below grade walls are planned for the structures. The structures will have a maximum estimated column load of 200 kips and maximum estimated wall load of 6 klf. Asphalt parking lots and drive lanes are generally planned to the north and south of the medical examiner office building, and are estimated to be subjected to passenger vehicle and occasional truck traffic, with a projected loading of 10-18 kip ESALs/day estimated for use in this report. A stormwater management pond, with a bottom elevation of about EL. 629 (as provided on the site plan), is planned to the east of the medical examiner office building. It is understood that the finished floor of the medical examiner office building will be at an elevation of about EL. 639, and the finished first floor of the jail addition will be at an elevation of about EL. 638.5. PSI must be notified if these elevations are changed. The existing grades at the borings within the medical examiner office building presently range between about EL. 642 and EL. 636.5, and presently range between EL. 638 and EL. 637.5 in the jail addition. Therefore, on the basis of the planned first floor elevations, cuts and fills of up to about 2.5 to 3 feet are estimated to be necessary for the medical examiner office building, and fills of up to about 1 foot are estimated to be necessary for the jail addition. However, this will also be dependent on the subgrade preparation criteria, to be discussed in a later section.
