The blood banks at both Downtown and Community Campuses operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and expects to work with a qualified contractor who can provide service at all times. UPSTATE performs routine and advanced immunohematology testing including, but not limited to, blood type testing, compatibility testing, antibody identification, elution studies, adsorption studies and titration studies. In 2023, UPSTATE purchased 11,589 red cell units, 2,637 plasma units, 2,227 platelet units, and 452 cryoprecipitate units. This blood will be used for surgeries, trauma cases, and various procedures in the Hematology/Oncology, Maternity, and General Medicine Departments at UPSTATE. Blood must be delivered in temperature-controlled containers validated for blood storage. In 2023, the Downtown Campus purchased 10,265 red cell units, 2,590 plasma units, 2202 platelet units, and 448 cryoprecipitate units. In 2023, the Community Campus purchased 1,324 red cell units, 47 plasma units, 25 platelet units, and 4 cryoprecipitate units.
