Danville Regional Airport in conjunction with the Virginia Dept. of Aviation, is planning an obstruction removal project to occur within the airport’s Runway 31 approach area (Eastern side of the airfield) to remove or top trees that have been identified as, or will soon become, navigational hazards to aircraft. Both aerial and ground survey work have been completed, and impacted trees have been marked by a surveyor (exhibit with coordinates and elevations is attached). The size of the project consists of 5.37 acres and will involve the removal or topping of approximately 230 trees. Many trees are located on private property and property owners are to advise their preference for the removal or topping of their trees. The contractor will be responsible for addressing any remediation needs for the properties resulting from the tree work. All debris is to be removed unless otherwise specified by a property owner, and areas will be backfilled, graded, seeded, and strawed where needed.
