• Establish and implement the appropriate financial and administrative controls for the project. • Monitor the design process and verify proper incorporation of program requirements into the design. • Attend meetings with public agencies and assist in obtaining permits, approvals, and other authorizations necessary for the development, construction and operation of the project. • Work with Architect to prepare a Project Schedule, incorporating pre-construction and proposed construction activities and coordination with Owner’s business operations. Project schedule will provide enough detail to show: a) Design process major deliverables b) Approval timing for government agencies. The current City of Urbandale Police Department (UPD) building was constructed in 1981 at approximately 12,000 s.f. and was expanded to 23,000 s.f. in 2008. The current UPD workforce consists of 60 sworn officers, 9 civilian employees, and 12 reserve officers. Ten year projections for UPD estimate 72 sworn officers, 10 civilian employees, and 12 reserve officers. Future annexation could require larger numbers of UPD personnel to maintain adequate staffing levels. Building is anticipated to be located on a site of approximately 4 acres at the southwest corner of Douglas Avenue and 100th Street on property already owned by the City of Urbandale. One of the main issues with the current construction is that the proximity of the program components is not well organized. The training/squad room needed to be located where site space allowed, but forces it to be very far from the front entry limiting its use for meetings with outside attendees from neighboring police departments or the public.
