5. DESCRIPTION Up to 1,000 lbs. of seed/chaff from up to eight species of plants (Table 1) will be delivered to the Contractor within plastic container (or comparable package units) containing breathable cotton or burlap sacks. The seed provided to the Contractor may include chaff and seed appendages, but inflorescence stems and other waste material will be removed prior to delivery and all practical efforts will be taken to avoid collecting weed seed during seed collection efforts. All seed will be dried to a moisture content of less than 14% prior to delivery to the Contractor. The species and designated seed lot of each seed bag will be clearly labelled on the outside of the bag and an identification tag will also be included inside each bag. If multiple bags are delivered in the same seed lot, then that seed can be combined but neither seed lots nor species seed will be mixed. a. Seed Cleaning Upon delivery of seed to the Contractor, seed must immediately be grouped based on seed lot/species and stored in a climate-controlled storage area. Within one week of receipt of seed, all seed will be cleaned to an industry accepted % purity for each species using industry standard seed cleaning equipment. All customary seed cleaning practices will be conducted to minimize seed loss and/or damage. Additionally, the native species seed is to be cleaned to remove undesirable invasive weed species and the Contractor will be responsible for killing parasites/pests within the delivered seed.
