Independent ballistics testing was conducted over a three-year period to determine performance of ammunitions when fired through bare gelatin, heavy clothing, wallboard, plywood, steel and auto glass. Additionally, The Division participated in demonstrations alongside five other local law enforcement agencies in Tallahassee. The ballistics data indicated that Speer Bonded Duty ammunition demonstrated the highest effectiveness in supporting the Division’s officers in both training and field operations to fulfill their statutory responsibilities. When fired through heavy clothing, Speer Bonded Duty ammunition achieves optimal expansion without over-penetration, ensuring the protection of life, as officers perform their duties. Speer’s Bonded Duty, G-2, line ammunition is manufactured specifically for law enforcement agencies. SinterFire Frangible projectiles are designed to minimize the environmental hazards associated with the use of lead projectiles. Multiple firearms training ranges throughout the state have added requirements to limit the use of lead projectiles during training. The SinterFire projectile is designed to break apart into small pieces upon impact. Additionally, SinterFire projectiles have a reduced risk of ricochet and splash back which offers greater safety for officers in the training environment. The Department has concluded that Speer ammunition is the best available option for duty ammunition while SinterFire is the preferred option for training ammunition. Vista Outdoor owns the manufacturing company of Speer. The Department reached out to both Vista Outdoor and SinterFire, confirming that Florida Bullet Incorporated is the exclusive law enforcement distributor in Florida authorized by the manufacturers to distribute their ammunition within the state.
