The Owner has identified multiple capital replacement and rehabilitation projects necessary to improve the physical, structural and operational condition of the WPCF’s existing buildings, systems, equipment, and ancillary components. The below improvements are organized based on grouping of plant processes. 1. HEADWORKS BUILDING Primary Screen - The existing primary screen is a mechanical climber type screen located in the basement of the Headworks Building. The screen is a single reciprocating rake design limited to the rate of cleaning due to the height. There is a backup manual bypass screen that can be used; however, the system requires manual labor and frequent cleaning. The system is inefficient in keeping the debris out of the grit tank and secondary screen. This results in rapid clogging and causes backups into the collection system. The recommendations include installation of a second mechanical screen and replacement of the existing primary screen. Grit Removal System - The grit removal chamber is located in the basement of headworks building. The equipment is beyond its intended design life and has a history of failures. The system requires frequent costly repairs. Structural inspection of the grit tank interior and cover is recommended to confirm its rehabilitation or replacement.
