The City of Fitchburg seeks bids to transport stone off the top of Rollstone Hill from the old granite quarry to the Rock Walk trail entrance at Bruce Street. The stone being transported will consist of 35 granite blocks (approximately 8” x 14” x 4’ to 6’ long, 100 random granite boulders approximately 2 cu. ft. – 3 cu. ft. in size to be used as edging along the trail, and to provide and position ~15 ton of crushed stone on the trail as a surface for the sandy tread. The project also includes the reposition of two large boulders at the entrance to the trail at Bruce Street. This will require a large excavator or loader to mover and position these two stone. The locations are staked at the entrance and shown on the 2nd map. The quarry at the top of the hill is accessible to trucks and heavy equipment via the Communications Access Road to the communications tower. As shown on the attached map, there are several locations from which the steps and the granite boulders will be retrieved. The project manager will be available to direct the contractor to the various sites.
