The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) in partnership with the Michigan Department Corrections (MDOC) is seeking proposals from qualified architectural / engineering firms to provide professional services for the study of the exhaust fan and smoke purge systems at the Baraga Correctional Facility (AMF). This project includes completing a study of these systems within seven (7) housing units. Aging equipment and control systems, from vintage late-1980s, need to be assessed for functionality, current capacity, code compliance and replacement. Improvement of ventilation and capacity to meet agency operating requirements, regulations and current codes is desired. Specific concerns to address odors, smoke and shower exhaust shall be included at a minimum. The study shall include review of ventilation system upgrades in progress for a current shower replacement project to factor into the report of existing conditions and upgrades in progress. Recommendations may be required to address buildings that have shower upgrades and those that do not yet have upgrades. Under that shower upgrade project, the designer was tasked with providing added/increased ventilation to meet a target of 3-times the required ASHRAE requirement for that application.
