Laboratory may receive evidence in multiple formats including but not limited to: sexual assault kit (SAK), non-screened evidence, pre-screened evidence, pre-portioned samples, or reference samples. Each non-SAK case will include an assignment notification sheet depicting the case scenario, evidence to be analyzed, and analysis to be performed. SAKs should include the medical intake form detailing the assault, if absent the laboratory should contact PPD-LSB to provide details regarding assault for guidance on sample selection. • Non- Screened Evidence • Biological screening procedures for blood, semen, and saliva must be internally validated. • Y-screening procedure cannot consume more than ¼ of the entire sample. • If visible staining is present, an appropriate method of collection will be utilized. • If the double swab technique is used for items of evidence with no visible staining, both the wet and dry swab should be entirely consumed in DNA analysis...
