a. The Contract Attorney will explain the program, the benefits of the program, ensure the participant resides within the geographical jurisdiction of the probation office, and ensure the participant does not have any previous convictions that would prohibit their participation in the program. This will be an early morning commitment (video/telephonic is permissible). b. The maximum number of participants at any one time will be 30. c. Be fully prepared to provide effective representation to clients and at appropriate level of service which could be up to the Initial Appearance if the person volunteers for the program. d. Be physically present in Navajo County at such times and in such locations as may be required to make court appearances, collaborate with COPE Partners, and to meet with clients, justice system personnel and other parties as necessary when virtual appearance is not feasible. e. Explain the COPE program requirements and seeing if the defendant wants to participate. Then if the person wants to participate, ensure they sign the contract after explaining it to them. Appear with them at the Initial Appearance to ensure the Judge enters the proper release order. f. Make plea offers, file appropriate motions, and defend appropriate motions. g. Participate in COPE management conferences with other COPE Partners.
